Resilience

The development and plasticity of mesocorticolimbic dopamine circuitry has extensive influence over the onset of psychopathology such as schizophrenia, depression, and addiction. Our findings to date suggest that reduced expression of the netrin-1 receptor DCC confers resilience against developing neuroanatomical, neurochemical and behavioral traits associated with psychiatric disease involving mPFC dysfunction. One of the research goals of our group is to investigate the role of DCC signaling in mediating resilience to psychopathology in both animal models and translational studies.
